Letter to Parents

I am delighted to provide you with a copy of the Ofsted Report, which is now available for publication. I hope you will agree that it is a Report that both recognises and acknowledges the high quality education delivered by Tadcaster Grammar School.

The Ofsted Team has confirmed that Tadcaster Grammar School is a “Good School” in all aspects of its work. In particular it pays tribute to the outstanding teaching that takes place in the school and experienced by the Inspectors, who were impressed by the pace and challenge of so many of the lessons they observed.

The Report confirms the outstanding cultural, moral and spiritual ethos across the school, where considerable emphasis is placed on students knowing the difference between right and wrong. I am also reassured that the rich extra curricular provision the school delivers has been recognised as contributing significantly to student welfare and guidance.

There is a very effective self-evaluation framework throughout the school and the Inspectors have noted that the school knows itself very well and confirmed our judgements.

Throughout the inspection two areas of focus were particularly overt – achievement and progress. On both counts the Team recognised all the efforts being made by the school, both in the classroom, from the point of view of teaching and learning, and across the school as a wider community. The Team was impressed, as the Report indicates, by relationships. They have concurred the conclusions reached by the school, with respect to further improvement, and have agreed that progress towards them is already noticeable.

The Inspectors acknowledged the contribution Governors and staff make to promoting a culture of success. When you are an integral part of the school community it is very clear that this is at the heart of the school. However, it is both reassuring and gratifying to know that the Inspection Team was able to recognise this during their visit.
