Sixth Form Courses

Naturally, we are very proud of the achievements of our Sixth Formers, most of whom gain places at Universities and Institutions of Higher or Further Education, throughout the country. Tadcaster Sixth Formers also move into employment at much higher starting levels due to Advanced qualifications, and the maturity acquired from an additional two years of education.

Post-16 courses offer both continuity and variety for our students. We offer many advantages that individuals choosing an alternative establishment may not secure, namely:

• Staff fully aware of each student’s needs and capabilities
• A warm, friendly and structured ethos to promote independent learning
• Continuous individual pastoral support
• Relatively small class sizes, guaranteeing greater personal tuition and monitoring
• Support for the completion of a Progress File and the advancement of Key Skills
• A vibrant and cultured social ‘scene’ to balance academic application!

Students may select combinations of subjects from a broad option structure, including:

Accountancy Art and Design Biology Business Chemistry Computing Economics Electronics English Language English Literature French Further Mathematics General Studies Geography German

History Law Mathematics with Mechanics Mathematics with Statistics Music Physics Product Design: Graphics Product Design: Systems Physical Education Psychology Religious Education Sociology Theatre Studies.

All of these courses lead to the A2 examination at the end of Year 13. Due to popularity, many subjects are offered twice within the option structure, allowing virtually all permutations of choice.

Tadcaster Sixth Form is open to all students who meet the minimum entry requirements, and who feel that they will benefit from post-16 study. An increasing number of students join the Sixth Form from outside our normal catchment area. Being a Sixth Former is both an enriching and prestigious experience, and is positively promoted through the school.

Our Sixth Form are involved in many extra-curricular activities. Most notably, they form their own company each year, manufacture and market products, and learn how business functions. Both the Young Enterprise scheme and Proshare are highly successful. Tadcaster Sixth Formers have won the National Final of Young Enterprise and the National Proshare Final, which included amongst the prizes a trip to New York for the successful students.
