Individual students join the school
throughout the year and are carefully integrated within each
Year Group. Tadcaster Grammar School has developed
excellent relationships with our seven partner Primary Schools
within our traditionally recognised ‘catchment area’.
When
the new Year 7 join us in September, the transition is, for the
majority, to an already familiar environment. A peer counselling
scheme (Reach Out) run by older students who have received
formal training helps younger students settle into the school.
All our students receive a School Planner to support their
learning and to facilitate communication between home and
school.
We have established a first class sequence of acquaintance
and familiarisation visits, including invitations to our Open
Evening each October, and a New Parents’ Evening in July.
Teachers with specific responsibility for Year 7 students visit
Primary Schools to meet our future students whilst they are in
Year 6.
We take special care of those who live outside the usual ‘catchment’,
and do not have a circle of friends being admitted
simultaneously. Much thought is given to the placing of students
in suitable Tutor groupings.
The increasing quality and quantity of data available from
Key Stage 2 means that we possess considerable knowledge of new
members of Year 7 when they arrive.
