During Years 10 and 11 the majority of
students follow courses leading to a maximum of nine full and
one half GCSE subjects. The Key Stage 4 curriculum consists of
Core subjects supported by a group of Choice courses.
Core:
- English (leading to Literature and Language GCSEs)
- Mathematics
- Science (double award covering Biology, Chemistry and
Physics)
- Religious studies (leading to a possible half GCSE)
- Personal Social and Health Education incorporating
Citizenship
- Physical Education
- Work Experience (two weeks) organised for the beginning
of Year 11.
Choice:
Our Choice curriculum includes the possibility of a number of
programmes of study leading to GCSE or other equivalent
qualifications. Choices are made in the Spring Term of Year
9 from a range including:
- Art and Design

- Business
- Child Development
- Design Technology (choice of specialism)
- Drama
- European Computer Driving Licence
- Foreign Languages (French, German or Spanish)
- Geography
- Health and Social Care
- History
- Information and Communication Technology
- Leisure and Tourism
- Music
- Religious Studies (full GCSE).
Our Choice curriculum is subject to regular review and
development.
Teaching Groups for examination subjects show differentiation
through individual ability and previous attainment. Many GCSE
examinations offer tiered levels of entry, based upon
recommendations. To ensure that all students achieve their
maximum potential, advice is given on the most appropriate tier
for them.
