Our students receive a rich and varied
programme within years 7, 8and 9, in accordance with the
National Curriculum. Whilst utilising the best educational
practice, we aim to develop the individual to a high level of
competence in all subject areas. In Year 7 this
coverage includes:
- Art
- Design Technology
- Drama
- English
- Geography
- History
- Information and Communication Technology
- Mathematics
- Modern Foreign Language (French or German)
- Music
- Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education
- Physical Education
- Religious Education
- Science.
Students
first entering Tadcaster Grammar School are placed in mixed
ability Tutor Groups, for pastoral care. Apart from Mathematics,
where broad setting takes place, all other subjects are taught
in these Tutor Groups. We believe that this structure eases the
transition from Key Stage 2.
As students progress through Key Stage 3,they usually remain
with the same Tutor Group. In addition to the subjects taught in
Year 7 the students are also taught Business and Enterprise in
Years 8 and 9. Students are grouped in mixed ability curriculum
groups for most subjects except for Mathematics, Science and
Modern Foreign Languages where broad setting takes place in Year
8 and for English in Year 9. In Year 9 students can opt for a
second Modern Language, either French or German. At the end of
Key Stage 3 (Year 9) students are entered for Standard
Attainment Tests (SATs) in the Core Subjects of the National
Curriculum.
Information Technology is an integral part of many subjects,
ensuring that every student gains skills in the use and
application of computers. The development of communication,
numeracy skills and problem-solving is encouraged in all
subjects.
