Tadcaster Grammar School offers its
students an extensive selection of activities beyond the
curriculum, taking place at lunchtimes, after school, at
weekends and, in the case of certain residential visits, some of
the holidays. All extra-curricular opportunities
are meticulously planned to extend a student’s knowledge,
skills, teamwork, self-esteem and sense of achievement.
Sports Clubs and Teams are organised in Athletics,
Basketball, Cricket, Cross-Country, Dance, Football, Gymnastics,
Hockey, Netball, Rounders, Rugby and Tennis, all with
considerable success. Annual Sports Tours are arranged to the
Netherlands, Portugal and Spain with a Water Sports week in the
South of France.
Concert Orchestra and Concert Band rehearse regularly, and
perform in and out of school, including open-air venues, and
touring abroad.
Junior Choir and Senior Singing Group perform all types of
music, and Instrumental Groups regularly perform. Music is a
very strong extra-curricular activity, as well as being a
popular academic discipline.
Drama productions are staged frequently, and many students
regularly attend theatre visits across the country. Spain is
also the setting for Drama Workshops arranged by the department.
Duke of Edinburgh Awards are flourishing, with schemes for
Bronze, Silver and Gold pursued by students in Years 10
-13.Participation rates increase every year.
Foreign Language Exchanges are a highlight of our year, with
both French and German ‘twin’ schools. Our own intensive study
course to Le Touquet, in France, is a particularly popular part
of Year 11’s preparation for GCSE, whilst a visit to a German
Christmas Market is open to Year 8 students.
Foreign Visits include the following:
- Renaissance Cities of Northern Italy (Sixth Form
biennial)
- History field trips to First World War battlefields
(Year 10)
- Skiing and Snowboarding holidays to Europe (three are
organised each year, aimed at Year8, Years 9-11 and Sixth
Form)
- Art Study tours to New York, Paris and Barcelona
- Water sports to France and Portugal
- Expeditions to Morocco, Costa Rica and Argentina as part
of World Challenge.
| Clubs and Societies are numerous and
include: |
- Amnesty
- Chess Club
- Christian Union
- Computer Club
|
- Debating Society
- French Conversation
- Reading Club
- Technology Club.

Tadcaster Grammar School students in Years 7-11 remain on
site throughout the day, and therefore our lunchtimes are
particularly active occasions. All students are encouraged to
maximise their effective use of time, and participate in a broad
spread of interests.
“The school provides a
particularly strong programme of extra-curricular activities of
which the ambitious and effective Duke of Edinburgh Award
Programme is a highlight” Ofsted Report |
