In September 2003 Tadcaster Grammar
School achieved specialist status in Business and Enterprise.
Our success will result in a £1million investment over four
years to raise standards and provide opportunities throughout
the school and in the wider community. As a
Business and Enterprise College we continue to provide a broad
and balanced curriculum, but are developing particular expertise
in Business, ICT and Mathematics. We view Enterprise as a range
of essential life skills and attributes, which will be
encouraged in our students. These include team skills, problem
solving, the ability to make decisions, innovation and resourcefulness. This project has provided:
- A large ICT Suite which will have a flexible divider to
enable it to be converted into two separate areas
- A meeting room primarily for the use of local businesses
- A dedicated reception and waiting area.
Our Business curriculum provides all students with the skills
and knowledge that will improve their employability in the
rapidly changing labour market of the 21st century. All students
will have the opportunity to develop business and economic
understanding together with enterprise and financial skills.
ICT has become an increasingly important resource for all
subjects. The primary aim of the college is to provide greater
access to high quality ICT and to encourage students to develop
their skills as independent learners through the use of ICT. We
also aim to provide teachers with more ICT for use in their
teaching and to offer more ICT related qualifications to our
students.
In Mathematics we will continue to promote standards of
achievement and increase the number of students who wish to take
Mathematics both after GCSE and into Higher Education. Recent
press coverage has strongly highlighted this as a growing
problem nationally. As a Specialist College our strategy will
hinge around developing new approaches for teaching and
learning, increasing opportunities for more able students and
extending the range of Mathematics courses available.
In our partner primary schools, Specialist College resources
are directed towards supporting and facilitating Mathematics for
more able pupils, training for teachers in ICT and enterprise
activities.
